As beings we are all absorbing and emitting light, and constantly exchanging molecules with every other living thing. Hundreds of billions of atoms in our bodies were once in another’s. Which is a lot to wrap the head around.

Ordinary Beings is the film studio of Anna Sandilands and Ewan McNicol, based in Portland, Oregon. Here we are pushing toward the things that connect us to each other and to the natural world. Toward what is real, original, meaningful and honors all of us light-emitting, molecule-swapping, extra-ordinary beings.

We are interested in looking at the world around us by making things; mostly films with and about real people, and mostly through observation. We aim to look further, and try to find what hasn’t yet or isn’t often seen.

Our work has been curated and screened at MOMA New York, the Institute of Contemporary Arts London and the National Portrait Gallery London, as well as film festivals including Sundance, Tribeca, BFI London, CPH:DOX, and SXSW. Our first feature film Uncertain was a NYT's Critic's Pick and won the Albert Maysles Best Documentary Director Award at Tribeca Film Festival.

Our commercial work has won Cannes Lions, Webbys, Pencils and an Effie, and run during the Super Bowl.
